Department of Commerce organized aninduction program On 17/08/2024 at St. Vincent Pallotti College in the seminar hall to welcome the fresher of B.Com students. It isnamed “Value and Vibes” representing the moral and encompassing the enjoymentin college life. It was guided by the Head of the Department of commerce andits Faculty members along with college non-teaching staff.

            The Program Started with bombasticperformance of students, showcasing various dance forms, singing slots andcheerful games on all coordinated by the students themselves. Providingcomprehensive and relevant information about courses, campus resources, andacademic expectations enhances the perceived value of the induction process.Well-structured sessions and clear materials support students in transitioningsmoothly. Offering access to academic advising, mental health resources,and extracurricular opportunities adds significant value, helping students tofeel well-prepared and supported.

           Induction programs that include practical sessions on navigating the campus,understanding administrative procedures, and using campus facilities are highlyvaluable. Creating a warm and friendly environment during induction canpositively impact students' initial perceptions of the institution. Positivevibes are conveyed through friendly interactions, engaging activities, and asupportive tone.

The Department of Commerce at St. VincentPallotti College organised an engaging competition, 'Unveil the Tagline' at theAVA Room on 20th July 2024. This fun-filled activity was designedfor undergraduate students pursuing Commerce, and aimed at enhancing theiradvertising knowledge and creativity.

The 'Unveil the Tagline' activity provided anopportunity for bachelor's students to showcase their understanding of variousadvertisement taglines through an interactive competition. Students of B.Com Ist,IInd  and IIIrdyear demonstrated their creativity and knowledge by accurately guessing andinterpreting different advertising slogans.

The event saw active participation from 28enthusiastic students who eagerly took part in the competition. Theirinvolvement and enthusiasm contributed to the program's success, making it avibrant and engaging experience for all involved. Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastav, Head of the Commerce Department,under whose guidance and supervision, all the faculty members played avital role in planning and executing the event. Their dedication ensured theevent ran smoothly and was effectively managed from start to finish. Theresults of the 'Unveil the Tagline' activity are as follows:

The'Unveil the Tagline' activity was a resounding success, providing students witha platform to showcase their creativity and advertising knowledge. It not onlyenhanced their understanding of marketing strategies but also fostered a spiritof healthy competition among participants.


The Corporate Chronicles Case Study Competition, held on 06-12-2023, Wednesday on 2nd floor of St. Vincent Pallotti College for B. Com II students. The aim of this activity was to provide students with a practical understanding of real-world corporate scenarios, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations. The activity focused on cultivating critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and teamwork among students.

The competition began with the selection of diverse case studies spanning different industries and challenges. Students were then organized into groups, encouraging collaboration and diverse perspectives. This allowed students to apply theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to analyze the selected cases thoroughly. Each group presented their findings, showcasing an in-depth analysis, proposed solutions, and the rationale behind their recommendations.

This presentation aimed to improve communication and presentation skills. Following each presentation, a comprehensive discussion was facilitated, allowing for constructive feedback from both peers and the instructor. The activity encouraged critical thinking as students delved into complex situations, identified key issues, and proposed viable solutions. It also emphasized teamwork, enhancing interpersonal skills, and promoting active engagement. The overall success of the "Corporate Chronicles" case study activity suggests its continued integration into the curriculum to prepare students for the complexities of the business world. Total of 7 teams participated in the competition.

The Corporate Chronicles Case Study Competition proved to be of great help in offering a unique platform to students to demonstrate their skills in a competitive setting. The event not only highlighted the students' ability to apply theoretical knowledge but also emphasized the importance of effective communication, strategic thinking, and adaptability in the face of challenging scenarios. The positive outcomes suggest the continued viability and expansion of such competitive formats to enhance the overall learning experience of students.

Department of Commerce organized Diya and Candle Decorations Competition on 3rd November, 2023 in AVA room. The event aimed to encourage creativity and craftsmanship among participants and celebrate the art of decorating diyas and candles as part of the auspicious customs of Indian tradition.

Students of B.Com I, II & III years actively took part in the competition, showcasing their artistic talents. They have displayed different colours, decorative artefacts, designs and more diversified thinking.

Participants were given the freedom to choose their decorative themes, resulting in a mixed array of designs. Some popular themes included traditional, modern, nature-inspired, and abstract designs.

A panel of two  judges (i) Mrs. Yashaswee Lonkar (Department of Education) and, (ii)  Mrs. Abhilasha Khare (Department of Computer Science), assessed the entries based on the following criteria, (i) Creativity: Originality of design and innovative use of materials., (ii) Craftsmanship: Attention to detail, precision in execution, and neatness, (iii) Visual Appeal: Overall aesthetic appeal and how well the decorations complemented the Diya or candle. After careful evaluation, the judges announced the winners in each category. Prizes were awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, Diya Decoration:-  Ritu Banjare, II. Gopi Patel, III. Khushi Pandey  Candle Decoration:- I. Pranjal, II. Rajun Beck, III. Rohan Kispotta, The winners received certificates by HOD Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava.

“The Diya and Candle Decorations Competition” was a resounding success, it is concluded with a note of vote of thanks by Mrs. Neetu Gupta. The event witnessed creative individuals and fostering a sense of community. It celebrated the beauty of artistic expression and provided a platform for participants to showcase their talent.

Career planning and development of a student in an undergraduate stream has taken its dynamic shape since the recent introduction of ‘National Education Policy’ (NEP)-2020 by the Government of India in July 2020. Especially the students of the commerce stream are identified themselves as multifaceted career option in terms of the eligibility and preference towards multiple courses and placements.

The Commerce Department engrossed an opportunity in bringing more adaptability in terms of different perspective of the career options of its students. In order to highlight more resourcefulness, The department has made a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ (MoU) with ‘Space Institute of Design and Innovation’ (SIDI) to offer various contemporary career opportunities in the courses of ‘Interior Designing’ and ‘Fashion Designing’.

On 20th of October 2022, The department has organized a ‘One Day Workshop’ on the ‘Exploration of Career Alternatives and Add-ons in the Interior & Fashion Designing Courses’. The workshop is mainly dealt with two aspects (i) the alternative courses to be opted along with B.Com graduation (ii) Enhancing the creative skill-set. Mr. Harsh Dubey, the chief co-ordinator and speaker of the institute has emphasized and provide the important information on the present-day features and developments of future-ready courses viz., ‘Interior Designing’ and ‘Fashion Designing’. Mr. Vishnu, a contemporary fashion designer has been carried out an activity on ‘Abstract Art’ with respect to the identification of the students’ creative abilities and application in order to pave the way for obtaining their respective courses.

The students who have displayed the extraordinary creative art-work at the work-shop are encouraged and suggested for some of the courses. Principal Dr. Kuldeep Dubey has presented the momentos of ‘Best Compliments’ to the co-ordinators. Large number of students have enthusiastically participated and made this work-shop successful.

St. Vincent Pallotti College emphasizes the importance in promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of India in the form of conducting cultural activities since they are not just about entertainment or competition but also help students to develop a range of important skills which contribute to their development of holistic personality. Department of Commerce organized a unique ‘Thali and Matka Decoration Competition’ on 19th October, 2023 in the AVA room of the institution for all the B.Com students.

The objective behind the event has two cultural significances. (i) ‘Thali’ (Sacred Pooja Plate) which is typically decorated with auspicious symbols and images, During puja, is placed in front of the deity being worshipped and filled with offerings during the festival of ‘Dussehra’ to celebrate the victory of good over evil. The different colours and designs on the ‘Thali’ represent the different aspects of good and evil. The colour red represents strength and power, while the ‘white’ represents purity and innocence. (ii) ‘Matka’ (a traditional earthen pot) is decorated during Dussehra to celebrate the harvest season. The Matka is filled with water and decorated with flowers and leaves as per the tradition.

The competition is commenced with an introductory guidelines in preparing the decorative items by Mrs. Tripti Pashine. The students were participated enthusiastically and showcased their creative abilities. The participants will get scores in terms of four different criteria, i.e., (a) Theme building (b) Creativity (c) craftsmanship (d) Overall presentation. Librarian of the College, Dr. Sunita Pawar and senior faculty member of the Management Department, Ms. Aanchal Mishra were invited as judges for the competition.

Director of the Institute, Fr. Amit Tirkey, and Vice-Principal Dr. G. Padma Gouri attended the event as special guests and expressed their best compliments and motivated the students for indulging in the specific cultural competition. Rajeshwari Yogi (B.Com-1C), Rajun Beck (B.Com-III) and Anshita (B.Com-II) were placed top three positions respectively. Dr. Preeti Singh, proposed vote of thanks for the event. All the students participated were successfully overwhelmed by the creative competition. Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava, Head of the Department has also given his best compliments for the successful execution of the program.

The essential objective of ‘Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM)’ is to provide a structured opportunity for parents and teachers to share information about the student's academic progress, behaviour, and overall development. St. Vincent Pallotti College committed to promote the collaboration between their students and parents. In order to support the very objective of sharing academic programs, policies, and resources, the Department of Commerce organized ‘PTM’ on 13th and 14th of October, 2023 for B. Com-I, II and III year students respectively in their classrooms.

Every parent of the ward attended on the meeting was informed about the student’s performance in the recent ‘Unit-Test’, attendance ratio and discussed the qualitative abilities of their children in the classroom. Principal Dr. Kuldeep Dubey was invited to deliver his assessment on the meeting. He emphasized on the importance of sharing necessary information about the college, system of examinations and the objective of the ‘Parent-Teacher meeting’. Vice-Principal, Dr. G. Padma Gouri has also shared her views and stressed on the need of communication between the parent and ward irrespective of the official meetings, the value of regular feedback by them in order to analyse and evaluate the functions and responsibilities of faculty and students. Class In-Charges of the respective sections discussed with the parents about the ‘Declaration form’ of attendance of the ward as per norms of the university. They also explained about the ways to progress and attempt the upcoming pre-university and annual examinations by the students.

Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastva, the Head of the Department of Commerce, categorically discussed about the new syllabus and exam pattern of both external and internal percentage of total marks. He elaborated on the strategy and practices to adopt by the students not only in attending the classes but also taking on the future examinations in terms of obtaining good score by the students. The ‘Parent-Teacher Meeting’ concluded on 14th of October, 2023 successfully and the immediate stakeholders of the institute, i.e., Students and Parents benefited by the session.

A career counselling program in the Commerce Department was organised on 11th of October by Mr. Nitish Kumar Dubey, Manager, ICFAI Business School, Raipur. It was a great opportunity for the Students of BCom BBA and BCA final year, as he demonstrated   valuable insights and guidance on the completion of graduation. He discussed various academic options, such as CA CFA CMA MBA etc. and other specialized programs after BCom/BBA/BCA Courses

He highlighted the importance of choosing the right course based on interests and career goals. Mr. Nitish elaborated present current trends and developments in Commerce, Management and Computer Application fields.

The expert provided an overview of diverse career paths, including finance, marketing, HR, entrepreneurship and many more. He further shared success stories of alumni and professionals in the field and emphasized the essential skills and qualities needed for success in Commerce and Management careers like communication, problem-solving and leadership. He explained the importance of internships, and practical experience in building a strong resume.

He discussed the significance of joining professional organizations. He shared tips for building a professional online presence. He provided guidance on creating a compelling resume and facing interviews. He allowed students to ask questions and seek clarification on their career concerns and encouraged students to explore their interests and plan for their future.

All the faculty members are present including Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava HOD. A  vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Tripti Pashine Singh and expressed gratitude towards the speaker for taking valuable session on career guidance and counselling after graduation.

St. Vincent Pallotti college offers certificate courses from all the departments exclusively in different domains to uphold valuable educational option for students who are looking to enhance their learning skills. The Department of Commerce designed a ‘Certificate Course in Tally PRIME’ which is an application of accounting software useful for commerce graduates on their placement opportunities in the various fields. The fundamental objective in offering this certificate course is to provide students with specialized knowledge in a particular area, i.e., accounting record and management system-Tally. Department of Commerce signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ with ‘CAPS Tally, Raipur’ which offers contemporary courses on Computerized Accounting.  The certificate course commenced from 21st of September, 2023 to 26th of September, 2023 in the AVA room. 50 students in total of B. Com-I, II and III years are enrolled in this certificate course.

The opening ceremony of the course started with a welcome speech by Mrs. Neetu Gupta, Assistant Professor. Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava, Head of the Department of Commerce shared his views on the importance of the certificate courses with respect to the commerce students and invited Mr. Chetan Gupta, Director of ‘CAPS Tally’ and Mrs. Preeti Gupta, Chief-Instructor of ‘Tally-Prime’ to proceed with the scheduled lectures.

‘Tally-PRIME’ certificate course covers four different modules viz., (i) Inventory management: which covers the process of tracking and managing inventory, including receiving, storing, issuing, and selling goods. It also covers topics such as inventory valuation and stock control. (ii) Taxation: which covers the different types of taxes that businesses need to comply with, such as GST, VAT, and income tax. It also covers how to calculate and file tax returns. (iii) Payroll: which includes the process of calculating and paying employee wages and salaries. It also covers topics such as tax deductions, leave entitlements, and superannuation contributions. (iv) Banking: which includes the different types of banking transactions that businesses need to manage, such as deposits, withdrawals, and transfers. It also covers topics such as reconciling bank statements and managing credit cards.

The six-day certificate course ended on 26th of September, 2023 in the AVA room. Principal Dr. Kuldeep Dubey, on the closing ceremony, shared his views on the activity and emphasized the need and importance of obtaining the certificate courses and complimented the department and with special mention of the in-charge of the course, Mr. Akash Goenka. Principal, Vice-Principal Dr. G. Padma Gouri and HoD, Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava presented the certificates of ‘Tally-PRIME’ to all the participants.

The ‘Departmental Certificate Course’ successfully concluded with a note of vote of thanks by Mrs. Neetu Gupta. The activity helped students develop their transferable skills, such as critical thinking in record keeping, usage of functions and features of Tally-PRIME as well as preparation of final accounts which are valuable in all workplaces, irrespective of the specific job title or industry.

Role Play Activities’ conducted at a college level involve students taking on different roles and interacting in diverse learning settings. These activities provide valuable opportunities for students to practice skills they will need after graduation. Department of Commerce organized a team-building ‘Role Play’ activity for the students of all three years of B. Com program on 9th of September, 2023 in the seminar hall.

The event started with a welcome speech by Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava, Head of the Department of Commerce. He elaborated the objective of the activity and underlined on how they can help evaluate students' abilities to work under pressure with others, as well as assess their decision-making and communication skills. He also stressed the importance of role play which lies in its potential to offer authentic and reflective learning experiences.

Six different groups of students participated in the activity consisting of three members each. The orator of the event, Mrs. Tripti Pashine, Assistant Professor, has given different situations to each of the groups in which every member has a ‘Role’ to play. These random situations are based on the fundamental organizational working scenarios viz., (i) Acting as a Bank Manager, Customer and Colleague under specific circumstances (ii) Sales Manager, two employees in a scenario of selling of a product (iii) HR Manager, female and male employees’ working hours (iv) Interviewer and two aspirants (v) Three volunteers for a charity cause (iv) Service manager and two customers for switching between the products.

The participants tried to demonstrate their abilities to act as different roles, time management for taking quick decisions and most importantly on building a team as well as working as an active member of the same. Mr. Singamala Vamsee and Dr. Preeti Saini Agrawal were two judges of the event. The group of first position (i) Kanjali Kohade (ii) Muskan verma (iii) Farheen Bano and the students bagged the second position were (i) Shraddha Gupta (ii) Ayush Tiwari (iii) Priya Agarwal. The winning criteria of the ‘Role Play’ include (a) Communication Skills (b) Collaboration and Team work (c) Role Portraying skills. Winners of the first and second positions were given the certificates of appreciation. Many students participated and performed well in the ‘Role Play’. The faculty members of the Department of Commerce Mr. Krishna Kant Choubey, Mrs. Neetu Gupta, Mr. Akash Goenka successfully executed the activity. The event was concluded with a note of ‘Vote of Thanks’ by Mrs. Tripti Pashine.

The promotion of creativity and fostering team work and collaboration among students are the main objectives of organizing cultural activities in the institution. The Department of Commerce is convened a unique ‘Eco-friendly Rakhi and Card Making Competition’ on 28th of August, 2023 in the seminar hall of the college with the very objective of delivering the expression of sisterhood and brotherhood among the students. The participants of the event are given a stipulated time to make their exclusive ‘Rakhi’ and ‘Card’ by individual and team. The theme of the activity was ‘Eco-friendliness and sustainability’. The rules and guidelines also framed to utilize the organic materials viz., (a) reflecting the elements of nature, recycling and bio-degradability (b) Usage of Jute, Cotton. Paper, Cereals and other natural components. The students, in this unique competition have incorporated their creative work and presented beautiful, colourful and very innovative ‘Rakhis’ and ‘Cards’. Dr. Sunita Pawar, the Librarian of the institution, Dr. Mini. S. Pillai, senior faculty of the ‘Department of Education’ were invited as judges of the event. Rankings were given by them as per four criteria viz., (i) Creativity (ii) Eco-friendly theme (iii) Craftsmanship and (iv) Over-all Presentation. Principal Dr. Kuldeep Dubey and Vice-Principle Dr. G. Padma Gouri have invited as Chief-Guests of the event. The Principal shared and highlighted the very creative and cultural objective of the activity which strengthen the bond between the students as well as promotion of peace and harmony. Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava, Head of the Department of Commerce also inspired with his words of appreciation and encouragement to the participants and students attended the event. Principal and Vice-Principal have presented the certificates of participation to the winners of the event. Ms. Admaya Shrivastava, Ms. Tanya Nainani, Mr. Ashish Xalxo have grabbed the first position in the individual preparation of ‘Rakhi’. Mr. Tushar Gupta, Ms. Piranjal and Ms. Jyoti have won the first position in the group activity. Very large number of students participated the activity and showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity to display not only the theme of ‘Eco-Friendliness’ but also showcased the cultural bond of sisterhood and brotherhood. The faculty members of the ‘Department of Commerce’, Dr. Priti Saini Agrawal, the In-Charge of the event, Mrs. Neetu Gupta, Mr. S. Vamsee Krishna, Mr. Krishna Kant Choubey and Mrs. Tripti Pashine have executed the event successfully.

An ‘Institution’s Orientation Program’ for the new students is as crucial as it is to ensure their academic journey towards the right direction. St. Vincent Pallotti College organizes this event as part of its scheduled academic calendar which is attributed to every department of the institution. The Department of Commerce convened 2023-24 session’s orientation program, titled as “PRARAMBH” on 23rd of August, 2023 in the seminar hall at 10:30 A.M.

The event started with the lighting of the ‘Divine Lamp’ by the Director, Father Amit Tirkey, Principal, Dr. Kuldeep Dubey, Vice-Principal, Dr. G. Padma Gouri, Head of the Department of Commerce, Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava, along with the Heads of Computer Science and Education departments.

Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava, in his address to the students of the department of commerce enumerated about the college, curriculum, facilities and regulations. He also emphasized on the academic expectations and support services of the institution. Principal Dr. Kuldeep Dubey, while sharing his views to the students, explained on how to acclimate to their academic and social environment as the college provides an equal opportunity to actively participate and engage in their curricular and co-curricular activities to benefit the campus facilities and culture to the greater extent.

The students performed on stage in various categories viz., group dance, group singing, solo dance and instrumental play to elevate the enthusiasm as well as energy of the attendees and viewers. Mr. Krishna Kant Choubey displayed a visual journey of the Department of Commerce through the power point presentation. Mrs. Neetu Gupta, In-Charge of the event, Mrs. Tripti Pashine, Mr. Akash Goenka and Dr. Priti Saini Agrawal have executed and supervised throughout the program by encouraging a greater number of students to participate in different segments.

‘PRARAMBH- the Orientation Program certainly helped the students feel more comfortable and informed about the institutions’ facilities, curriculum transactions and other provisions especially for the new admitted B.Com-1st year students. A large number of students were participated and benefited by this event. The students are well informed about how to connect with peers, faculty and staff and to foster a sense of belongingness and commonness.

The program concluded with the note of ‘Vote of Thanks’ by Mr. Singamala Vamsee. Dr. Sunita Pawar, Librarian, Dr. Prachi Singh, Head of the Department of Management Dr. Mini.S.Pillai and Mrs. Ramola Dan from the Education department were also witnessed along with all other faculty members of the Department of Commerce to this ‘Orientation Day Program’.

As per the recent report of ‘All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE)’, about 16% of students enrolled in commerce stream at undergraduate level only after ‘Arts & Humanities’ courses. It is evident that a significant number of students progressed through B.Com course which paves the way for the contribution of professional and technical support for the various industries involved in (i) Business (ii) Trade and (iii) Accounting. Subsequently, the training and creation of skilled work-force in those areas are crucial to every institute which offers commerce stream like St.Vincent Pallotti College.

The Department of Commerce is focused exactly on this prime factor of advantage to be given to the students who are pursuing B.Com course. In order to cater the interests of the students, St. Vincent Pallotti College made a ‘Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)’ with the ‘Tally CAPS Infotech’, Raipur for conducting workshops and seminars exclusively for the B.Com students in ‘Tally PRIME- an accounting software’.

Mr. Chetan Gupta, The Director of the institute has been carried out a one-week work shop on ‘Tally Prime Value Added Course’ which includes, (i) Creation of company (ii) Voucher entry (iii) Ledger creation (iv) F11 and F12 features (v) Order processing (vi) functionality and transferability from Tally ERP to Tally PRIME. Students were given assignments on the completion of every module and those who have excelled in the respective modules were awarded with the ‘Certificate of Appreciation’. Large number of students participated in the workshop and benefitted on the important aspects of career enrichment through the accounting techniques from ‘Tally-PRIME.

The seven day long workshop is successfully completed on 26-11-2022 on which the toppers of the modules were presented with the certificates by Head of the Department of Commerce, Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava. The program co-ordinator, Ms Khushboo and Department’s in-charge of the workshop Mr. Aakash Goenka supervised and executed along with all other faculty members of the department. The session concluded with the words of gratitude by Mrs. Tripti Pashine.

By embracing emerging trends, addressing key challenges, and seizing new opportunities, Startups can chart a path to sustainable success in today's dynamic business landscape.

The Department of Commerce organized a ‘Three-Day Workshop’ on 'Startup Business' aimed at providing students with valuable insights into the intricacies of initiating and managing a Startup enterprise especially taking Chhattisgarh into consideration. The workshop took place from November 3rd to November 5th, 2022, spanning over three consecutive days, i.e. Thursday to Saturday, with sessions commencing at 11:00 am at St. Vincent Pallotti college. The event aimed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in the entrepreneurial landscape.

The primary objectives of the workshop were as follows:

To familiarize students with the fundamentals of starting a business from scratch in various sectors such as retail, food, hospitality industries etc.
To impart knowledge about various aspects of entrepreneurship, including idea generation, business planning, funding, marketing, and scaling in the above industrial environment.
To provide insights into real-world challenges and solutions encountered by Startup founders.
The workshop comprised a series of interactive sessions, presentations, case studies, and practical exercises conducted by seasoned entrepreneurs across all the segments, industry experts, and faculty members specialized in entrepreneurship and commerce. The sessions were meticulously designed to cover a wide range of topics pertinent to Startup ventures.

Day 1 (November 3rd, 2022):

The inaugural day commenced with an opening ceremony, followed by keynote addresses by distinguished guest speakers who shared their entrepreneurial journey and valuable insights. Subsequent sessions delved into the importance of ideation, market research, and feasibility analysis in the Startup ecosystem.

Day 2 (November 4th, 2022):

The second day focused on business planning and strategy formulation. Participants engaged in interactive workshops and group activities aimed at developing robust business models and effective execution strategies. Case studies of successful Startups provided practical insights into overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities.

Day 3 (November 5th, 2022):

The concluding day featured sessions on funding options, financial management, and marketing strategies for Startups. Expert panel discussions and Q&A sessions provided participants with the opportunity to seek guidance and clarification on various aspects of entrepreneurship. The workshop concluded with a closing ceremony and certificate distribution to acknowledge the participation and commitment of the attendees.

Outcomes: The workshop received enthusiastic participation from students, who found the sessions informative, engaging, and inspiring. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the entrepreneurial process in retail, manufacturing, food and hospitality segments and acquired practical skills essential for navigating the complexities of Startup ventures.

The three-day workshop on 'Startup Business' proved to be a resounding success, fulfilling its objectives of empowering students with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration needed to embark on their entrepreneurial journey. The Department of Commerce remains committed to organizing such initiatives in the future to nurture and support the entrepreneurial aspirations of its students. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the students who actively participated in the program and express our gratitude to the Director, Principal and Vice-Principal for providing platform for this transformative course.

The most fundamental benefit of the non-academic activity for the students of the institution is ‘Learning a new skill’ where they participate and engage themselves to demonstrate and try to acquire the competence of the same. The very objective of the Department of Commerce is to facilitate the students to broaden their social skills as well as improve their time management.

“Nick of the Time” comprises a group of activities related to time management, team building and decision making. The students of B.Com-I, II&III have participated in a variety of games and events viz., (i) Pyramid making by disposables (ii) Balloon challenge (iii) Creative wear (iv) Singing and Dancing performance

The Teachers of the Department motivated the students to increase their interest levels and linking these activities to the concepts of ‘Team building’, ‘Managerial task completion’ as well as ‘Decision making’. Since these gaming activities captivate the students towards active engagement, they focus and adopt their natural skills to develop their mental abilities instantly.

The group activities of “Nick of the Time” performed by the students of B.Com by organizing themselves into three different groups whereby they grasp and get into the respective game and deliver their skills and abilities to finish the same. As these group activities are associated with time bound completion, by coming out quickly out of the games, most of the students realize the importance of the ‘Time management’ and ‘focused Mind’ in a clamorous environment.

Creative wear, singing and dancing performances highlighted the inherent talents by some of the participants. Teachers of the Department of Commerce worked out and directed the students to take part in the above events in order to complete in a given time frame.

Winners of the games and activities are given the certificates of appreciation by the Head of the Department, Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava. All the teachers of the Commerce Department were present at the session and the students have actively participated and benefited by the activity.

The prominent and the most anticipated point of student’s life is the transition of the curriculum from school to college level. The Institution’s aim is to inculcate students through the induction program by which the new students acclimatize to their new roles and environment of the institution. As per the UGC’s-‘Guide to Student Induction Programme’, it should cover the different aspects of (i) Socializing (ii) Associating (iii) Governing and (iv) Experiencing - of study skills, small-group activities as well as creative and performing arts which is abbreviated as SAGE.

The Department of Commerce has made a best possible attempt to familiarize those aspects of ‘Student Induction Programme’ including the different activities and mentoring by the teachers. The programme started with lighting of the lamp by Principal, Vice-Principal, Heads of the Departments and other senior faculties. Principal, Dr. Kuldeep Dubey has emphasized on the purpose of the ‘Induction Programme’ and how to build bonds with other students and faculty members. He also described the process whereby the incumbents adjust to their college environment and regulations. Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava, Head of the Department of Commerce has also addressed the students and highlighted their new roles and responsibilities with regard to various stakeholders of the same. He discussed on how to be ambitious and fulfill their dreams to make proud of their college and all others who associated with it.

The programme was followed by ‘The Friendship Day’ celebration with a gesture of new bonding by the senior students to incumbents. They performed different group dances, solo singing with musical instruments and duet dance performance. All the students attended were enthralled and got familiar with the institution’s encouraging environment.

The presentation of certificates of achievement and appreciation was carried out after the students’ performances. Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava presented the certificates for the winners of the competitions, viz., (a) Debate competition on Privatization (b) Photography Competition (c) Learn with fun. The ‘Students Induction Programme and Friendship Day – 2022-23’ ends by ‘Vote of thanks’. Mrs. Neetu Gupta, senior faculty of the Department and the programme in-charge has successfully organized and monitored the entire event along with the senior students of B.Com Ms. Saima Ganj and Ms. Tanya Nainani.  

St.Vincent Pallotti College is continuously implementing and monitoring the curriculum transaction and evaluation across all the departments. The Commerce Department conducted the Pre-University examination for 2021-22 session for the assessment of effective learning as part of curriculum evaluation. The appraisal of students’ performances before they attempt the annual examination by the affiliated university measures the effective teaching-learning outcome of the students of respective years. This examination predominantly helps students to analyse and improve for further development in their preparation.

The time table of the Pre-University examination is prepared and circulated to the students fifteen days before the commencement of the same. Students of B.Com-I,II and III appeared from 08-03-2022 to 16-03-2022 comprising 18 different subjects. The parameters of the pre-university examination of commerce stream with respect to the question paper are based on the curriculum and pattern prescribed by the Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University.

Principal of the Institute, Dr.Kuldeep Dubey has motivated the students on the preparation and planning to achieve success in the final examinations and emphasized the need and objective of appearing in the pre-university tests conducted by the department of Commerce. Mr. Vaibhav shrivastava, HOD of the Department has directed and guided the necessary instructions and action plan to all the teachers for effective execution of the examinations. A large number of students attempted and benefited by the pattern. More than 75% attendance is observed in this curriculum evaluation process. It also helped the teachers to undertake the systematic analysis of outcomes and reorganizing the teaching learning strategies further to develop the curriculum transaction.

Internal personal skills are key tools for everyone. The knowledge can be gained from the books but we can learn them more from a practical activities, where we get feedback from others on its effect. We live in a world of cut-throat competition. Developing a strong personality puts you at the forefront among others. If you are under-confident or do not know how to present yourself, then it reduces the chances of selection even if you are highly qualified. 

The Aim behind organizing such a session is to work on the soft skills, gain better understanding of self-worth and a sense of self-assurance amongst students. Learning new abilities or improving old ones can provide them with a huge boost in confidence as well as knowledge. As you develop your personality, you learn to stay calm and handle situations with a practical mindset.

The present activity was organized virtually by the Department of Commerce on “Grooming the Personality”. All the students of B.Com, BBA, BCA, B.Ed, B.P.Ed participated with their great zeal and motivation. Arrangements were made for students in AVA room for attending the session and for others to join using Zoom and YouTube link.

The session was inaugurated by Principal, Dr.Kuldeep Dubey with a welcome note to the esteemed guest speaker. Mr. Lakshya (Target), Director Brainwash was invited as a guest speaker to make students aware about the need and ways to groom their personality. He is a Corporate Trainer, Business Coach, Motivational speaker, Celebrity Trainer and Personality expert. He emphasized on the need of improvising personality and communication skills. The session was full of energy and enthusiasm. All the students and faculties enjoyed the session and were delighted by the informations attained.

Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastva, HOD Commerce presented Vote of Thanks on behalf of Commerce Department. He explained how the college plans different activities other than academics to inculcate various skills like co-ordination, entrepreneurial, commercial etc. in students.

The program was very interactive and apart from the traditional opportunities this program initiated many other career options for the students. Around hundred people joined using Zoom link and more people got connected using YouTube link.

Knowledge is always the key point of the nature and related studies have been conducted on the relationship between academic performance and they all show that students who participate in them have higher grades, more positive attitude towards college and higher academic aspirations.

The department of commerce had conducted the departmental workshop on “GST Return Filing” organized on 07th and 08th January 2022 Friday and Monday respectively at 11:00 AM, at the B.Com II ‘A’ (2nd floor). Our Faculty was Mr. Akash Goenka, Assistant Professor, St. Vincent Pallotti College who is also expert I GST return Filing has given hands on experience to the students of commerce department on GST. 

Day 1: 07th January, 2022 (Friday),

Topic: GST (Goods & Service Tax) registration procedure

It was described about the GST (Goods & Service Tax) registration procedure, Permanent Account Number, GST Rate Slabs, How to register etc.., The students came to know the role of GST that, to keep the records of transaction, advice, tax returns and evaluate the legal aspects of the organization knowledge of career and importance of the GST as every person needs to fill the Tax. The students had largely participated and gained by the very aim of inculcating the habit of right decision at the right time and being a good citizen by paying their taxes.
 

Day 2: 8th January, 2022 (Saturday)

Topic: GST Return Filing

The second day was focused on How to file GST return and also how to fill it. 80 Students participated in the workshop. The Head of Department (Commerce) Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava, and team has accomplished the program well. Lastly the seminar was concluded with the vote of thanks to all who have attended the seminar, including the special guest, Director Rev. Fr Shanti Prakash Panna, , Principles Dr. Kuldeep Dubey, Asst. Director Rev. Fr. Roshan Kindo, Vice Principal Dr. G. Padma Gouri, , other Faculties members were present during the workshop.

Learning is a complex and dynamic phenomenon. St.Vincent Pallotti College believes that holistic development of a student depends upon the hard work of student, parent, and teacher. These three stakeholders integrated effort give the best learning outcomes.

 

Parent teacher meeting(PTM)  covers the distance among these three pillars of a student’s life. PTM opens a communication channel where a parent is a partner. Active participation of a parent brings a massive change in students academic performance.

 PTM was conducted by Department of Commerce on 17th November 2021, Friday for the students of B.com I, B.Com II and B.Com III. Students came with their parents/ guardians and met the respective class in-charges. Principal and Vice Principal of the college and HOD of Deptartment of Commerce addressed all the parents and had an interactive session with them. Principal Sir emphasized on the norms of University and the obligation in adherence to the institution. And the HOD , Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava has discussed about the University’s exam pattern and suggested important strategies for better results.

The progress report of the class test was shown to the parents. Feedback forms were given to the parents and their suggestions/opinions were noted. Teachers discussed and shared the overall personality of a students with the parents i.e. his/her behaviour, learning styles, relation to self and society, etc.The event witnessed enthusiasm from the parents to greater extent. It was a fruitful interaction between the teachers and the parents, aimed for the development of their children.

The department of commerce had conducted the seminar on “Career Prospect of CS (company sectary)” career Guidance Program organized on 08/12/2021 Wednesday at 11:45AM, at the Seminar hall. Our guest speaker was Mr. Sharad Kankani, CA, CS and CMA. He described about the nature of examination of about programs and how to attempt in company secretary examination in detail. The seminar was conducted in the seminar Hall, in which Students largely participated and gained by the very aim of inculcating the habit of right decision at the right time.

The students were benefited with the knowledge of career and importance of the company secretary as he is the key person in the top management, who is crucial to consult before making policy decisions and certain law compliances by the Board of Directors. The students came to know the role of company secretary that, to keep the records, advice, tax returns and evaluate the legal aspects of the organization.

The Head of Department (Commerce) Mr. Vaibhav shrivastava, and team has accomplished the program well. Lastly the seminar was concluded with the vote of thanks to all who have attended the seminar, including the special guest, Director Father, Principles sir, Assistant Director Father, Vice Principal mam, H.O.D, other Faculties and present students.

“Rags to Riches-Case Study of Companies”

Company Law case study activity was conducted by Department of Commerce for B.Com 2nd year students on 29 November 2021 named as “Rags to Riches”. Case study helps in bringing the understanding of a complex issue or object and provides an in-depth investigation of one particular individual, group, time-period or event. Case studies, though factual, are people-focused and less formal, making them more interesting for people to read. Based on real benefits, it can create immediate credibility among the listeners. It provides a means for highlighting and extracting practical principles and methods for shaping and accelerating progress in solving wicked real world problems.

Improving Communication skills and inculcating the ideas for business startups among students is very important in current scenario. This activity “Rags To Riches” is definitely helpful to gain real world experience with case study by utilization of resources at optimum level. Rags to riches refer to any situation in which a person rises from poverty to wealth, and in some cases from absolute obscurity to heights of fame, fortune and celebrity. Students of B.Com 2nd year participated in this classroom activity actively and explained case studies of various companies using various methods. Total of 8 teams along with 67 students participated in the activity. Students gave study of various companies efficiently and presented very well.

Student orientation program is organized to make the new students familiar  about the college campus, culture, ethics of college, various department classes, faculties etc. and current student panels and all the information students need to know to start into college life. It enables them to make essential connection with studies and develop network among other peers.

On 26th of September 21, the Commerce Department organized the Orientation Program“The Genesis 2021-22”, under the effective leadership of the Principal Dr. Kuldeep Dubey , Vice Principal Dr. G. Padma Gauri & the HOD Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava ,on Saturday. The goals of the orientation programs were to create student’s familiarity with the institution’s regulations and academic standards and course prospects.

The program was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guests and a welcome dance.  Students were highly motivated and  morally encouraged by the words of wisdom of the Director, Vice Principal & the HOD.  A power point presentation was also prepared about the faculties of commerce department and departmental activities.

Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava,the HOD of commerce department lead the team from the front line making it a total success. The program was hosted by Ms Archana. This event is co-ordinated and supervised by Mr. Vamsee Singamal, Mrs. Neetu Gupta, Mr. Krishnakant Choubey and Mr. Akash Goenka for smooth conduction and successful.

The Commerce department had organized the activity on 27-02-2021.This activity aim to bring exploration and experimentation to our Natural Environment. These kinds of activities will encourage your students to live a "greener" lifestyle, at home and at college. Activity was conducted for B.COM-I year students

By teaching children at a young age to be environmentally aware, our college builds lifelong habits that could potentially make a dramatic difference in the future of the earth. The activities and resources include power point presentations on various topics of Environmental concern like Acid Rain, Watershed Management, methods for reducing waste and trash, recycling tips, facts about pollution and its effects on the environment, global warming statistics, and plenty of projects for students.

This activity enhances student’s comprehension towards comprehension towards its natural environment and at the same time they learn about various tools on how to make Power Point presentation a sense of belongingness will come to students.

St. Vincent Pallotti College, the premier institute in Raipur has offered its B.Com students to attend and enrich their opportunities and career aspects in Chartered Accountancy Course as part of Students Support and Progression.

On 24th and 25th January, 2021, the Conference was organized by Central India Regional Council of ICAI (CIRC) of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) at MAIC, Raipur.

            The program focused on the Leadership skills including interpersonal proficiencies. CA Atul Agrawal, the Chairman of Central India Chartered Accountants Students Association (CICASA) clarified the queries related to the course and its article ship and emphasized the needs of stress control and data computing. CA Janet Serrao Agarwal, Keynote speaker has highlighted on the cross-border opportunities that can be availed by the students and aspirants of CA. This program was named ‘Aagaz’ which made to provide Aptitude, Attitude and Altitude for students aspiring to become CA professionals. CA Atul Kumar Gupta, The President of ICAI was also present on the event.

            Principal of St. Vincent Pallotti college, Dr. Kuldeep Dubey, was invited as a Chief Guest for the valedictory session. He has comprehensively explained about the changing trends and the pre-requisite skills and abilities to adopt in the curriculum of the chartered accountancy course, and students who were presented papers & special achievers were distribute Prize by Principal Dr. Kuldeep Dubey.

The Pre- University Exams serve as a precursor for students to experience the intricacies of the final exam. It is treated as a platform to score more and gain confidence. So, to accumulate consistent learning and to analyse the current position of the student these exams facilitate to analyse that which subject requires more attention.

The department of commerce has conducted “The Pre-University Exam” for the students of B. Com Part -I, II, III from 03/02/2020 to 22/02/2020 to enable students in identifying their weak areas, understanding the examination pattern, work on their mode of preparation, work on their writing speed. The college accommodated around 500+ students of all the three classes spreading over 7 rooms. Students largely appeared in the exams and gained valuable information and tips regarding final exam preparations with the interaction with Principal Dr. Kuldeep Dubey and H.O.D Mr. Vaibhav Shrivastava and the pre-university exams finished successfully in a smooth manner.
