“Guest Lecture on Career Opportunities”(2022-23)

The Department of Computer Science had organized a guest lecture on “Career Guidance and Opportunities”. This Guest Lecture was conducted for BCA & PGDCA students. The main aim was to create awareness among the students about the opportunities available in the profession related to IT fields. The speakers of this guest lecture were Mr. Suraj Singh and Mr. Kartikey Pandey. Mr. Suraj Singh is a BCA graduate and has completed his MCA from NIT Raipur, and currently working as a Software Developer with Stoics-IT development India Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore. Mr. Kartikey Pandey is the Director of ACME Academy at the outset. Mrs. Pooja Rathi (Head of the Department) gave brief introduction of Mr. Suraj Singh and Mr. Kartikey Pandey. Later on, Dr. Kuldeep Dubey (Principal) addressed the students and motivated them to fulfill their dreams.

The speaker Mr. Suraj Singh interacted with the students with the help of various multimedia tools. He started with the brief introduction of his professional background and company culture. He highlighted the necessity for young brains to be prepared for a variety of tasks as well as the fact that there is tough competition in the outside world. Additionally, he discussed the prospects and jobs that are available in the relevant field. He also discussed the necessity for the young people to be ready for the changes that lie ahead for them. He described how students might learn programming to tackle problems they have, when using other software that is readily available. He also highlighted which languages are in high demand in the market right now like Java, Python etc. and how to learn these languages.

Mr. Kartikey Pandey communicated with students on not only how to prepare but also elucidated different techniques about how to crack the MCA entrance exam. He also discussed about different top level colleges available for MCA. The lecture was very interactive and students found it very beneficial. The talk provided the students a platform for enhancing their knowledge and was endowed with proper guidance regarding all the aspects of career in their core field.

All the teachers of the Computer Department have worked hard towards the planning and execution of the event. The program was concluded with a gratitude note given by Mrs. Pooja Rathi (HOD).

World Computer Literacy Day 2022-23

World Computer Literacy Day is observed on 2nd December every year all over the world. The day is celebrated as the World Computer Literacy Day to create awareness and drive digital literacy in underserved communities worldwide. Department of Computer Science has celebrated this day by engaging students of BCA-I, BCA-II and BCA-III. 5 groups of 5 students each from the mentioned classes were formed namely Team CLOUD, Team INTERPRETER, Team TECHNOWLEDGE, and Team PARAM. These teams have visited different classes and departments of the college along with class teachers and shared technical facts and knowledge with them. This sharing of information included 5 sections of computer literacy in which each team member has explained one section and shared at least 5 points of the respective section. The sections were:

  1. Importance of Computer Literacy in new Normal
  2. 5 Fun Facts about Computer World
  3. 5 Frequently used Shortcut keys
  4. 5 Full Forms of Extensions (eg: PDF, JPEG etc.)
  5. 5 Computer Security Tips.

This event has helped in building inter-personal skills in the host students and in boosting their confidence and public-speaking skills. It was also useful in promoting the technological skills of the audience students and non-technical staff of the college.

5 Day Workshop On “Computer Hardware and Maintenance” 2022-23

Department of Computer Science has organized a 5 day Workshop on Computer Hardware and Maintenance for BCA students from 28th Nov - 2th Dec 2022 in association with GLOBAL Computer Institute, Raipur. Mr. Pramod Pal, Director, Global Computer Institute has given the training to the students in the workshop. Objective of this workshop was making students aware about the internal organization of computer system and internal structure of CPU. Mr Pramod Pal sir also taught how to take care of the computer's physical components, such as its keyboard, hard drive, BIOS setting and installation of software. A hand on practice has also been given to students. Day wise schedule of the workshop was:

  • Day-1: Pramod Pal shared his knowledge about physical parts of computer like: RAM, Motherboard, CPU, Processor, Hard Disk etc. He explained functions of all these parts and students got the chance to see physical devices inside the system.
  • Day-2:“How to assemble a PC?” was the theme of second day. Students have been given hands on practice for assembling and disassembling process of the computer system, where the steps were monitored by the instructor.
  • Day-3:In this session the trainer explained about BIOS. He focused on how to know the status of devices, whether they are properly working or not. He discussed about the BIOS, BIOS types, BIOS setting in detail. Students practically learn how to enter in BIOS setting, make appropriate changes and get information of system from BIOS.
  • Day-4:Preparation of system for installation of operating system was demonstrated by the tutor, he explained all the necessary steps like: create disk partition, format disk etc.
  • Day-5: Instructor demonstrated installation process like: selection of boot device from BIOS, bootable disk of operating system, installation options in different steps. He cleared the doubts arose by the students.

The session was ended with the vote of thanks by Mrs. Pooja Rathi, HOD, Department of Computer Science. Students reported that they have got good knowledge and this will be very helpful to solve real life problems. They were very satisfied and have demanded more such workshops in future.


Flyer Making Competition 2022-23

Flyers are one-sheet advertisement that is presented by a business for promoting its products or services. A flyer is exceptionally beneficial in gaining the attention of the audience. It helps to explain a business's strong points, promote trade, and express all product and service details. Before technology, people used to take help from a professional designer and ask them to create flyers for their businesses. But now, with the advancement in technology, flyers can be made speedily with the help of online flyer makers and can be posted on social media accounts with no hassle. With these online tools, anyone can create flyers, even if they aren't well-versed in graphic design. Department of Computer Science organized Flyer Making Competition on the topic “Admission Open in St. Vincent Pallotti College” to improve the technical and creative skills of the students. Students were using CanvaAdobe PhotoshopIn design, Coral Draw, and PicsArt for designing their own flyers. The students beautifully created the flyers using various software. A total of 10 students from all the classes participated in the competition. The time duration allotted to participants was 45 minutes to completely create the flyer.

The Judges of the event were Ms. Rupali Sharma and Mr. Digvijay Singh. The winners of the event were:

The program ended up with a motivational message by HOD, Mrs. Pooja Rathi. Altogether, the program was a huge success with the help and guidance of Mrs. Abhilasha Khare, Ms. Rupali Sharma, Ms. Neha Sahu, and Mr. Digvijay Singh and the complete coordination of the students.  

Quiz Competition (2022-23)

Besides the obvious academic benefits of expanding a student's knowledge and exploring new skills at an early age, quizzes redefine the education system in significant ways. This Quiz helped students identify what they know and what they don't know. The students then have a better idea of how well they are grasping the material, hopefully motivating them to study more and helping them allocate their study time effectively by focusing on the information that still needs more practice.

The Quiz competition organized by the Department of Computer Science consisted of 4 groups namely Team Master Minds, Team Einsteins, Team Cleverbot and Team Quiz Masters. The competition was conducted in 3 rounds. In round 1, general knowledge questions were asked to each team. Team Quiz masters led in round 1. In round 2, song identification has to be done by each team. Team Einsteins led in round 2. Round 3 was face recognition round in which morphed images of renowned personalities were shown on the screen and the team has to guess the correct name. This round was led by Team Cleverbot. After the completion of all the rounds, Team Cleverbot won the quiz competition. Later, the event was concluded with words of motivation by HOD, Mrs. Pooja Rathi.


Alumni Talk (2022-23)

Topic: Skill Enhancement

Alumni are the groundwork’s of an establishment and act as torchbearers for their impending ages. To refine our BCA and PGDCA students and provide them with a brief look at the Corporate World, Alumni Talk Series are consistently arranged where senior Alumna connect with the ongoing understudies and guide them by sharing open feedback. We, at St. Vincent Pallotti College, are always focused on giving a wide experience to our students, in every aspect of the life.we also believe that the success of any institution can be measured by the contribution, the alumni make in their personal life as well as in national life.

So, Department of Computer Science organized an Alumni talk on 03 Nov 2022. The alumna invited was Ms. Saransha Shannon Bagh, a PGDCA student of 2021-22 batch and is working as Consultant and Digital In-charge in Macro/Micro Skill enhancement Consultancy Pvt. Ltd, Dehradun. When she was a student she was sincere, dedicated and hard working. She is full of enthusiasm and always believes in growth and committed efforts.

 

At this event Principal of the college Dr. Kuldeep Dubey, Vice Principal Dr. G. Padma Gouri, Head of the Department Mrs. Pooja Rathi and all the staff members were present. Program started with a welcome note by Ms Rupali Sharma and HOD, Mrs. Pooja Rathi Ma’am addressed the gathering and focused on the importance of alumni. Principal Sir welcomed Ms. Saransha Shannon Bagh with a floral bouquet and during his welcome address applauded the Senior Alumna and praised her for sharing valuable time for her alma mater.

 

Ms. Saransha Shannon Bagh shared her experiences. She also showed students that it was a great time spent in SVPC. St. Vincent Pallotti College has wonderful faculties and they are very cooperative. She also discussed on how to harness the required skill set and also threw light on Five steps of success. She also discussed about the scope of the streams that are available with BCA and PGDCA course. She added that one year not only helped her broaden her horizon in the area of knowledge but also helped her discover more about herself.

The session ended with interactive question answer round and vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Abhilasha Khare. Students felt a lot wiser after having dual benefits of getting reconnected with the alumni as well as learning from her experiences.


Techno Update – II (2022-23)

In the 21st century, technology plays a huge role in all facets of life, we always turn to computers to access information, create and express ourselves, communicate and collaborate, and track the achievement of learning outcomes. Computer technology is very volatile in nature and it is getting updated very quickly so it’s really necessary to update ourselves as well. So the initiative was taken by the Department of Computer Science and organized an event on 19/10/2022 named ‘Techno Update-II’ where students were able to share their knowledge about new technologies. The aim of this activity was to develop relationship with current technologies. 

 

Students were instructed to select the topic of their own choice. Topics and name of the students are listed below:-

  1. Isha Sahu – Smart watch with Ear pods.
  2. Sweta Chelani – Information Security
  3. Swapnil Lakra – Metaverse.
  4. Prateek Rohan Tigga – Bio Chips Technology
  5. Sagar Mishra – Virtual Reality
  6. Yash Kulkarni – Smart Sensors in Cars.
  7. Fathae Karan Singh – Bar Code Technology.
  8. Bhavesh Kumbhare – Wireless Charging.
  9. Sudha Mani – Robotic Process Automation.
  10. Priti Verma – Internet of Things.

 

Faculty in charges of the event were Ms. Rupali Sharma and Mr. Digvijay singh. This event gave our students an opportunity for sharing and introducing the upcoming technologies and also providing them a platform for enhancing their Public Speaking and an overall Self-Development.

Students were advised to use PPT for their presentation. Each student provided 10 minutes for presentation. Students explained very well and shared very informative & sensible facts about the new technology on their respective topics. After every presentation, Question-Answer session took place and presenter cleared all the doubts of audiences. All the participants were awarded certificates. The activity was overall a perceptive event which turned out to be very educational and helpful. The program ended up with a motivational message by HOD, Mrs. Pooja Rathi.

“Parent-Teacher Meeting”(2022-23)

Parent-Teacher Meeting serves as a platform for highlighting the problems related to academics & activities and for appreciation of the child. It acts as an opportunity to refine child’s individual learning plan. Parents are equally responsible in child’s academic development as they must identify both challenges and the gains the child seems to be making as a student and as a social person.    

So, for this purpose Parent-Teacher Meeting was conducted by the Department of Computer Science for the students of BCA and PGDCA. Students of BCA and PGDCA came with their parents/guardians and met the respective class teachers. Principal, Vice Principal and HOD of Department of Computer Science addressed all the parents with their motivational words and had an interactive session with them. The Principal told the importance of the PTM to the parents and said that even in the college, the PTM is as important as it is in the school.

 The progress report of the unit test and average attendance of the students were shown to the parents. Feedback forms were given to the parents and their suggestions/opinions were noted. Many of the parents gave their opinion and also gave their valuable suggestions.

The PTM came to an end with the conclusion that joint effort, mutual understanding and co-operation of parents and teachers is very important for the proper nourishment and progress of students. All the teachers of Computer Department have worked hard towards the planning and execution of this meeting.


PPT Presentation Competition 2022-23

“Power Point Presentation Competition” was organized on Friday i.e. 14/10/2022 by the Department of Computer Science. The basic purpose of organizing this competition is to inculcate and boost corporate communication, removing the stage fear, develop public speaking, encourage self-learning amongst the students. This activity is helpful to gain real-world skills such as the ability to present accomplishments and skills during a job interview. It also develops self-confidence in students and helps in removing stage fear. The motive of this competition was to enhance the technical minds, thinking skills, creativity skills, and skills of presenting the topic. 

Students were given total 10 topics out of which they have to select one and present the same. The students beautifully presented the topic using PowerPoint Presentation. A total of 10 students from all the classes participated in the competition. Every presenter was able to set an example and acted as an inspiration to other students. The time duration allotted to each presenter was 10 minutes with a minimum of 6 slides and a maximum of 15.

Aptitude Test 2022-23

An Aptitude Test is a form of psychometric assessment, used to measure students' potential capacity or ability to learn or acquire knowledge and skills when given an opportunity. It also measures the aptitude of students in various areas such as verbal, mathematical , analytical. An aptitude test typically falls into one of two categories: abilities test and behavioral test. The first category focuses on cognitive function, measuring skills like critical thinking, and problem solving. The second category explores one’s character, preferred working styles, and situational judgement.

Department of Computer Science organized an Aptitude Test for students, designed to assess the logical reasoning and thinking performance of students. The test consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and is administered under exam conditions. The test was strictly timed and students were given 75 minutes for 50 questions.

This test was designed for the students of BCA and PGDCA and was divided into five categories namely: Math Section (Numerical Ability), Logical Reasoning Section (Verbal Ability), English Section (Communication Skill), Computer Section and General Awareness Section. This aptitude test helped students to know their strengths and weaknesses and prepared them to score well in future competitive exams for employment. 


" Fun with All-Combined Activity" (2022-23)

Learning is not limited to class room studies, it can also be done with the help of fun. In fact, doing different activities increase motivation of the students, by helping them relax, share, and enjoy at the same time. Keeping this in mind, the Department of Computer Science conducted fun activities for the students of BCA-I and PGDCA. These light and engaging activities were the perfect way to welcome students to college. This activity was conducted which was comprised of different games. Students have actively participated in all the games.

First game was “Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes and Cup” in which the students face each other forming a vertical line and the leader calls out parts of the body like Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes etc randomly. When a part of the body is called the participants must touch that part with both hands. The player that picks up the cup wins, the player without the cup is eliminated.

Second game was “Mind Game” in which a PPT is prepared by the teachers which contain 50 random words. First the PPT is shown to students for 1 minute and during that time they have to remember all the words and then 1 minute time is given to them for writing those words. In the first round there was a tie between BCA-I, BCA-II and PGDCA students. So, there was also second round and the winner of the round was Shweta Chelani, student of BCA-I. Students enjoyed it a lot, with the help of this game the concentration and thinking level of the students are developed.

Orientation Day Celebration 2022-23

Starting college can cause much anxiety in the heart of a new college student. Orientation is a chance for students to learn how things work at their new college and meet other students as well as faculty and staff members. A good Orientation program helps students feel excited about starting college and smooth's the transition to campus life and the independence that comes with it.

Department of Computer Science had organized an orientation program for BCA and PGDCA with the aim to familiarize the students with an unknown campus environment, its faculties, and infrastructure. It will enable them to make essential connections with studies and develop networks among other peers.

The event was graced by Hon'ble Director Fr. Amit Tirkey, Principal Dr. Kuldeep Dubey, Vice Principal Dr. G. Padma Gouri, and Head of the Department Mrs. Pooja Rathi.

The program started with a warm welcoming to the students to a new environment by Ms. Rupali Sharma. At the very outset, to make the pupils more familiar with the campus, a PPT was shown. This was followed by a video of the Computer Department which enabled the new students to know more about the facilities and culture of the college.

Mrs. Pooja Rathi, HOD, Department of Computer Science delivered her welcome address which highly encouraged students to never give up on their dreams and to dream big.

Director, Fr. Amit inspired the students to achieve more in life and to lead a great life.

This was carried on with Principal Dr. Kuldeep Dubey's speech which helped the pupils to know their worth in studying smartly and to make a strong connection with their friends and teachers.

Last but not the least, our Vice-principal Dr. G Padma Gouri motivated the students to be strong in every situation and to have faith in themselves.

This was followed by some motivational songs sung by students.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Ms. Rupali Sharma. The program was well executed with the help of faculties Mrs. Abhilasha Khare, Ms. Rupali Sharma, Ms. Neha Sahu, Mr. Digvijay Singh, and Ms. Nikita Dewangan.


Technical Antakshari 2022-23

In order to improve academic performance, one needs to periodically refresh one’s mind and energy by taking study breaks. Hence, the Department of Computer Science organized an event named “Technical Antakshari” and the purpose of organizing this event was to have an informal interaction with new students of BCA and PGDCA and to make them feel comfortable with the teachers as well as senior students.          

The teachers divided the students into four teams. The teams were Tech Army, System Zombies, Tech Pirates and Terminators. As the name implies, ‘Technical Antakshari’ is a game of involving songs with little bit trick to identify the song. We added a little twist in the game by using some technical words and a variation to the regular Antakshari was played in which 3 rounds were there. Faculty in-charges of the event were Ms. Rupali Sharma and Mr. Digvijay Singh. The game was organized in 3 rounds and each team has provided with 2 chances to play. The students participated with full enthusiasm and were very active throughout the game. The winning team was System Zombies. This activity promoted the team spirit and interaction among the students. They enjoyed the activity and had lots of fun. Later on, the activity was concluded with a general competition between audience and participants.

"Techno Update-I" (2022-23)

We all know that today’s era is of technology and daily new technologies are coming in the world. We need technology in every classroom and in every student, because it is the pen and paper of our time and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.

With the help of this activity, students get to know which technology is being developed in the world. In this activity student describe the technical topic to enhance their knowledge related to different technologies. This activity comes within the best practice of the computer department. The main motive of computer department of computer department is that the students should also know about the new technologies, so, the computer department of computer science conduct this activity every year.

So keeping this in mind the department of computer Science organized an activity named “Techno Update-I”. The purpose of this activity was to develop a relationship with technology.

            Students were instructed to select the topic of their own choice. They have selected very innovative themes to discuss on.  Topics and name of the students are listed below:-

Each Student spoke individually on the topic for 5 minutes with the help of PPT, and shared very informative and sensible facts about the updation of technology on their respective topics.

This event was appreciated and enjoyed by all the students. With the help of this activity, students and teachers also came to know about new technologies. Overall the activity was very informative and helpful for the students. At the end program was concluded with a gratitude note given by Mrs. Abhilasha Khare for student’s hard work

“Tear the Stage Fear” (2022-23)

Fear of public speaking is a common form of anxiety. It can range from slight nervousness to paralyzing fear and panic. Many people with this fear avoid public speaking situations altogether, or they suffer through them with shaking hands and a quavering voice. But with preparation and persistence, we can overcome our fear. In order to overcome the problem of stage fear, Department of Computer Science organized an activity on occasion of 75th Independence day celebration named आज़ादी की अमृतवाणी - आओ पहचाने स्वतंत्रता सेनानी which follows the national celebration named “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.

“Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive Independent India. Through “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, India is celebrating the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.

The activity was conducted on Saturday, 27th August 2022 in BCA III Classroom which was comprised of speech related to Indian freedom struggle and story of different freedom fighters. Students have actively participated in this activity. There were total 50 names of Freedom Fighters written on different chits. Students were supposed to pick any one chit and should speak about that freedom fighter in around 10 sentences. The main aim was to strengthen the Public Speaking amongst the students and to polish their leadership quality through this activity. Students have shown there keen interest in the event and got the opportunity to enhance the spokesperson’s building skills.

This event was appreciated and enjoyed by all the students. All the teachers of Computer Department have worked hard towards the planning and execution of the event. The program was concluded with a gratitude note given by Mrs.Abhilasha Khare.


“Friendship Day Celebration” (2022-23)

Friendship is the only relationship that we choose by love and not by blood. There is nothing as pure as the bond between two or more companions. Every year the first Sunday of August is celebrated in the country as Friendship Day. And this year, it had been celebrated on 7th August, but as that day was Sunday, we celebrated it on 6th August 2022 i.e. Saturday. In department of Computer Science, a fun activity was conducted which was comprised of different games. Students have actively participated in all the games. There were total 3 games organized for students namely 1) Balloon game, 2) Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes and Cup,   3) Bombing in the Kingdom. The main aim was to strengthen the bond amongst the students and to strengthen student teacher relationship through this activity. The Department of Computer Science conducted this fun activity as it offers an opportunity for better team building skills to the students.

Out of three games there was a “Balloon game” in which all the students of BCA-II and     BCA-III were involved and total four groups were formed with 6 members each. Also, each group was allotted a balloon. In this game, students blow balloons with their mouth. The team who keeps the balloon in air longer was a winning team.

Second game was “Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes and Cup” in which the students face each other forming a vertical line and the leader calls out parts of the body like Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes etc randomly. When a part of the body is called the participants must touch that part with both hands. The player that picks up the cup wins, the player without the cup is eliminated.

Third game was “Bombing in the Kingdom” in which four kingdoms were formed and music was played. Students passes through the kingdom, and when music stops students add themselves in any of the formed kingdom. Students were eliminated on the basis of chits.

In order to conduct the games that results in team building skills, set of ground rules were structured. This helped in the smooth conduction of the fun activity and also developed a friendly atmosphere in the department. This event was appreciated and enjoyed by all the students. All the teachers of Computer Department have worked hard towards the planning and execution of the event. The program was concluded with a gratitude note given by HOD Mrs. Pooja Rathi.

“Group Discussion” (2022-23)

Group Discussion is an activity of discussion involving number of participants who share their ideas on a given topic. This activity is increasingly being used in the job market during interviews and selection procedures. As BCA is a professional course, the Department of Computer Science conducted this important activity as it offers an opportunity for extended speaking and listening practice to the students. The purpose of a group discussion is not to win an argument or to amuse the group members but to help each group member express his/her ideas clearly and effectively through interaction with other people. All the students of BCA-II and BCA-III were involved and total four groups were formed with 7 members each. Also, each group was allotted with the topic of discussion through chits. In order to conduct a discussion that results in learning, set of ground rules were structured. This helped in the smooth conduction of the activity and successful discussion. All the students learned the importance of body language and having command in a language to express their views. It was a successful activity as it boosted the confidence in members involved in this activity. It was a very interactive exercise and was fruitful for the students as it helped them in their overall personality development.
