ndia is a country of diverse cultures and traditions, a glimpse of these diversities is seen in the festivals of Indian folk life. Indian folk festivals are impressive platforms for the presentation of folk dances. The festival of Indian folk dance competition was organized by the Cultural Club, Department of Education, St. Vincent Pallotti College on 12th November 2020. Utsav, the festival of Indian folk dance was an inter club group competition in which participants of various clubs of Department of Education took part. Folk dance forms of Punjab, Rajasthan, Mizoram, Assam, Odisha, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh etc. were selected from different states of India for this competition, which were distributed among various clubs through chit system.
The main objective of the competition: -
- To showcase the diversity of Indian folk culture and festivals of folk life.
- To propagate and disseminate the folk language.
- To provide a platform to the students for the performance of various folk cultures.
The competition was duly inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Mrs. R. Gayatri Iyengar, Head of the Education Department and leaders of various clubs. After that various clubs scattered their colorful presentations on the stage. Theme, presentation, song choreography and coordination were the criteria of evaluation. The judges of the competition were all the teachers of the Education department. The winners of the competition were as follows: –
Semester III – First - ECO Club - Bamboo Dance
Second - Innovative Club - Haryanvi Dance
Semester I - First - Literary Club - Sambalpuri Dance
Second - Innovative Club - South Indian Dance
All the winners were honored by certificates. The competition was arranged by the students of Cultural Club of Semester I, who at the end of the event performed brilliantly on Indian festivals like Holi, Navratri, Eid and Christmas. All the teachers and students of B.Ed. thoroughly enjoyed the event.
